Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Bangalore will get train services from today. The airport is located 30 odd kilometres out from the city in KIAL road, Devanahalli. It is a pain to reach for passengers who have an emergency flight. Given the distance it is from the city, the cab rides are costly. Even though the bus is a viable option, it still costs a lot of time for the passenger. But from today, passengers don’t have to worry about taking cabs or buses to the airport; they can choose trains. The train service to the airport has already started today, i.e., January 4, 2020 — more details on the story ahead.
Kempegowda International Airport Train Service
The Indian Railways has deployed five pair of trains in the Bangalore airport and city route. The train service to the airport will be available for passengers six days a week leaving out Sunday. The South Western Railway had earlier announced that the halt point for Bangalore airport would be Bangarpet. It is worthy to note that Bangarpet is 5 km far from the KIA; thus, passengers will have to choose between buses or cabs to cover the rest of the distance.
A spokesperson from the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) told Deccan Herald that for covering the last few miles, the airport group will run a shuttle-bus service to ensure a seamless travel experience could be provided to the passengers.
Out of the five trains, two will operate from the Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) station in Majestic, two will operate from Bangalore Cantonment, and the last one will operate from Yelahanka.
With this train service, passengers won’t have to worry about getting stuck in traffic jams and missing their important flights. The service will be fast and cheap at the same time. Ashok Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager, said that travellers can reach the airport for Rs 10 from Yeshwantpur and Rs 15 from Cantonment.
This train service will surely hit the revenues of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) which operates Vayu Vajra buses between the city and the airport.
